Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this .

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP."

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UPthe kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP.

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so............ Time to shut UP.....!

Oh...one more thing:

What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U-P

For all the people who give me a hard time for spelling and grammar    ....maybe we need a new bylaw...and  give bylaws tazers too eh ;)
somewhere there is a bus stop in this picture... is it to much to ask to have the weeds and brush cut back once a year??
The main entrance to the city( Valley View and Dallas are an embarrassment to the city...Hey Community In Blooms judges... ...have you seen this part of the city??
This is what MOE calls strict monitoring???? Mills in BC often pollute 24/7/365 days a year with out opposition. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED?? because there is no legal precedence proving its harmfu; good old "government science" eh...lots proving cigarettes though.believe it or not, most of these emissions could be cleaned up with little investment, nobody needs to loose their jobs.

All you fishermen and hunters don't need a smoker, just hang the meat on the cloths line; it'll cure in the smoke n smog in no time so long as you don't mind a lead 'n mercury from Lafarge, and a concoction of chemicals from the veneer plant n pulp mills.

All Truth Passes Through Three Stages:

first, it is ridiculed

second, it is violently opposed

and finally truth is acceptance through undeniable self evidence
attention to detail is key....notice every boulavard looks like this, and yet some how Kamloops is the apple of the Community In Blooms eye year after year...what a joke...problem is we have to live with the joke which is not a joke because of the cost for CIB
Each year the city loves to buck the trend of water conservation and go all out; even watering the sidewalks and roads to keep our city clean; how thoughtful...How "above the law" they promote themselves. ahhh Oligarchy...I mean Democracy, yah thats it, keep tell yourself,
Speaking of bus stops; has anyone seen any with benches; what's up with that? last year the city removed all the benches that were at stops; not every stop had a bench, but a good number did; not a very good way to bolster ridership.

Also some bus routs hours were reduced last summer, making it ever increasingly harder to commute via public transit; I have had several members of the public comment how frustrated they are because they can't take the bus to work because there are no busses that leaves early enough to get them to work, and/or no busses running when they get off work. WTF??
Kamloops: a community of 90 000+/- souls nestled in the valley bottom of God's country; a beautiful hub community on the banks of the Thompson rivers where the North and South meet. The community of Kamloops is rich in history in the heart of the interior of British Columbia Canada. Kamloops overflows with pristine wild life and mountainous ranges with hundreds of lakes; in fact Tourism Kamloops once boasted guests can fish a different lake every day of the year. Kamloops has everything an outdoor enthusiast could dream of, and to top it all off, Kamloops has the best weather in all of Canada with nice hot summers and not tooo cold of a winter.

There is only one thing wrong with Kamloops, the same thing wrong in so many communities all across Canada...the politics suck! Indeed Kamloops Community Spirit has been slowly subrogated by corporatism and capitalism via Municipalities and Incorporation of the Community, changing the body of the city from a Community  to a Corporate body soul. Understand a "Corporate body soul" differs from a "community; a community is a group of people working together for the common good. Each member of the community is valued, respected, supported with everyone working together to meet everyone's needs.

A Corporate body soul is indeed a "person", but not a natural person like you and I, its a "legal fiction" person legally recognized as a "person" with the same rights and privileges as you or I theoretically. In reality its a fiction created by man who was inturn created by God. [legally recognized in the preamble of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms] U fortunately today's society has been morphed into the opposite; today corporations have quietly gotten rid of God and Religion, [for the most part] and placed themselves in the position of god, [note lowercase] only its a god with the mentality of a five year old playing with a loaded handgun in a crowded room; corporations in reality are Monsters; The corporation's soul purpose in life is to perform and profit at any and all costs. Clinically, Corporate "persons" would be diagnosed as psychopath for that reason; corporations are devoid of all emotions, unable to form emotional attachments or feel real empathy for others, although they often have disarming or even charming personalities. Psychopaths are very manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them, and will appear normal to unsuspecting people.

Here in Kamloops [and most other communities all over northamerica] slowly over time the community has been assimilated in to the corporate body soul; oligarchy slowly sucking the life blood out of the community over time, subrogating community pride for corporate oligarchy business plan.

Take for instance; Since the early 70's the community's mascot was Kami The Fish adopted by                                                               the people in the community and loved; Kami the fish was Kamloop's pride and center piece
right up until the 90's when a few hierarchy oligarchy assholes came up with a corporate
dream scheme to change Kamloops Pride from Kami the fish and the representation of the
rich real world diversity of the area and people to the corporate business plan "Tournament
Capital of Canada" regardless of the fact Kamloops is NOT the Tournament Capital of
anything...Kamloops does NOT land anymore tournaments than any other community. The
name change was largely done so that Corporation "CITY OF KAMLOOPS" justified borrowing                                                         60-100 million to piss away on frivolous sport complexes all over the city that cost a fortune to                                                               maintain and often only get used a half dozen times a year.

There was no public debate or forums on the major change, but there was lop-sided referendum slapped together at the last minute complete with a huge local business financed pro fan club to boot. Unfortunately and conveniently there were no community/people representing or funds for opposition; the motion barely passed @ 51% of the few who voted. the bullshit that passes for democracy these days can be found on all levels of government. Its a tool corporation use to called "wolf in sheep's clothing" or more commonly called "word perversion" corporation take a common word and secretly redefine the meaning so people think one thing but in reality it means the opposite. [like the motor vehicle act redefines "accident" to mean "an intentional collision"]

It didn't help that there was a conspiracy going around that Kamloops had to make an image change because it was quickly becoming known as the pollution capital of BC from the lax government laws that allowed corporation to emit pretty much anything into anywhere under "self regulation"; Kamloops Lake is teaming with mucas and parasites, and the air is thick with smog and particulate due to unregulated industry. Its been cleaned up a bit compared to the cesspool it use to be, [was so bad, shore vegetation was dead and boats had layers of mucas on them-today the muccas still lays deep beneath and the fish still have lice from sewage] but the damage has been done.  Focusing on sports, meant less attention to the corporate pollution in Kamloops water and air sheds. Kamloop's jewel; Kamloops Lake being overwhelmed with sludge and feces, ruining the lake as a recreation lake, has become the elephant in the room. The situation of a pulp and paper corporation along with municipal sewage on the banks of the lake leaves little to be desired of Kamloops lake. Just before the logo change from Kami the fish to "Tournament Capital" the old Kami the fish got a friend called "three eyed willy", designed by local grass roots activists who attempted to shame the corporations to clean up their act. Kamloops was also well known for its awful smell of rotting eggs from the pulp mill that could be smelled throughout the city. Today it doesn't smell quite so bad as it use to, but every so often we are given a reminder two or three times a year of the awful smell.

Besides being a outdoor enthusiast's dream, Kamloops community celebrated the pride of its grassroots backbone industries such as forestry and farming community. For many years there use to be what was called "Spoolmak Days"; it was a week in which the whole community would celebrate and decorate the shops with all the diversity of the people in the community. There was a traditional rodeo, 4H exhibition complete with a midway, and often a loggers competition. There was something for everyone, and it was a time for the community to celebrate its beauty and diversity of mostly blue collar hard working people, people who are the back bone of the community and Nation.

Kamloops USE to have many great events and activities, all of them built on dreams and hard work of good honest people within the community. The Wanda Sue is another perfect example; a replica paddle wheeler boat, build in the 70's by George Slack. His family ran it privately, offering wonderful tours of the river from 1983 until 2004 until it no longer became feasible to run the boat due to insurance and operating costs. If the city had any forethought it would have partnered with the Slack family to make it a center peace of Kamloops. Kamloops in its infancy during  the 1800's use to have dozens of paddle wheeler ships working up and down the Thompson rivers, Kamloops history is indebted to the fact that the two rivers was one of its strengths that made it the center of transportation of people, goods and home to many early businesses. Anyone with half a brain can see what a jewel in the rough the Wanda Sue is, what a loss it is to Kamloops community...literally its history and contributions to Kamloops is priceless. Today the boat sits rotting and rusting begging for some love and attention.something corporate Kamloops lacks.

The Wanda Sue is not the exception, time and time again corporate KAMLOOPS has turned its back on private business requesting consideration, often rejected helping/partnering with key private businesses, business that defined the community. Due to skyrocketing insurance and maintenance rates, several key centerpiece attractions have had to close their doors unable to go it alone any longer; manifesting Kamloops into a legal fiction zombie "person" of what it use to be. Kamloops is no longer a thriving community, it is literally a half dead zombie; "corporate body soul" created by a Frankenstein of bureaucrats counselors and mystical dark powers.

Commonsense dictates Kamloops being a semi desert, [one of the few deserts in Canada] it doesn't take a phd to figure out the business plan for Kamloops should entail water recreation, though due to Kamloops Lake being a dumping grounds for sewage and tailings, there was indeed a need for water recreation. In the late 70's  Kamloops Waterslides was built and made a GREAT addition to the community; both for residents of the area, and tourist, its was a natural fit. There was never any major accidents, yet it too fell victim to rising costs of insurance and maintenance. The waterpark was bought and sold several times in its later years because many people saw the potential. Each time money and effort was invested, but due to insurance companies increasing rates due to forest fires floods and other natural disasters increasing,[due to corporate industrial revolution causing climate change{profit at any cost}]  essentially punishing every business, [what a great system eh!] Unfortunately pleas for help and a little consideration from Corporate Kamloops fell of def ears, the water park and many other center piece attractions had to close. But of course the City acquired the land for a song like the zombie it is, devouring all in its path because its all about performance and profit now, not about people anymore. [except the 1% of course]

Kamloops was also center stage to the world with one of the first Canadian Cattle drives, started during the 90's by grassroots cowboys, Kamloops cattle drive was world famous and highlighted BC farmers traditional way of life still in use today, people came from all over the world specifically to enjoy the cowboy life for a few weeks. There were no major accidents or issues with safety or health, again it was a combination of insurance rates doubling and the city refusing to invest in the annual event, sadly it too closed its doors early in the new millennium. A monument to another example of short sightedness and prejudice from oligarchy inbehind the scenes who didn't find the cattle drive quite to their taste. Now the Arts, that's another story, each year over a million taxpayer's dollars are dolled out in grants to the various Art organizations. I'm not against the Arts, but I am against unfair use of taxpayer's cash.

Yet another example was the Kamloops Exhibition Grounds [aka KXA] which was right smack in the center of Kamloops, and had been a focal point for the community events since the 50's. A multi use park that had several events going on EVERY WEEK. There were several aspects of the park that made it a perfect fit; it had a giant 100 000 soft building that housed everything from trade shows, craft fairs and a famous winter fair drawing farmers from across BC that focused on farming families showing off their animals in the 4H show. The park had rodeo grounds, barns and even a race track and arena that were a perfect fit for a healthy happy country community.

Kamloops Exhibition Park had been the community center for all major activities for decades, then one day out of the blue chaos struck and the sky came falling down for the KXA. Some how even with the grounds being leased out every week, it still managed to go bankrupt. Located on Kamloops Indian Band grounds, the chief and counsel who were in office at the time, claimed back taxes were owed and hit the KXA organization with a fat bill and order to pay or get the f#%@k out! [KXA was run by the KXA association- a nonprofit organization with a board of members] This coming from a Chief [Shane Gotfriedson] and counsel who during official ceremonies and gatherings boasts of the "great partnership with CITY OF KAMLOOPS". Turns out it was a great partnership all right, the two organizations seemed to do everything in their power to close the KXA grounds; KIB threatened eviction and lawsuit while corporate CITY OF KAMLOOPS once again refused to support the grass roots organization financially or otherwise and abandoned the KXA like a disowned child.

It appears this "great partnership" was working towards a common goal; to shut down the KXA which would create a need for a replacement and the perfect timing for the corporate CITY OF KAMLOOPS to create a mandate to borrow millions on the backs of the taxpayers to build a facility worth bragging that would solidify in their sick minds Kamloops as "tournament capital of Canada". Both the CITY OF KAMLOOPS , and KIB had their eye on a chunk of land far on the outskirts of town known as the "Railey Corrections" site which was a federally claimed property, first used during the wars for training for war which contaminated the land with everything from lead, mercury and perhaps even agent orange and pcp which feds loved to play with like a kid in a sandbox. Later a low security prison was built on a portion of the grounds as a sort of half way house for convicts and criminals that closed in the early 80's.

It was well know the land was contaminated with heavy metals that had been leaching into the Thompson river for decades. The federal government corporation refused to clean up the toxins, and after years of pressure to do something, the feds decided to offer the land for sale to the public. There was a covenant put on that forced anyone who purchased the 20 acre plot was responsible for cleaning up the toxins before it could be used. The estimate for clean up was millions and millions, [precisely why the pricks refused to clean up the toxins]. Obviously you would have to be a complete idiot to purchase the property, so no one bid on it...accept guess who??...yeah you guessed it, a complete psychopath known as THE CITY OF KAMLOOPS!

The local Native band [KIB] also had an eye on the prize; learning that there was interest in development of the property, jumped on the opportunity to file a claim of ownership; of course it sat unclaimed for a century, but when there was some interest in it, the band sensing a crime of opportunity, filed claim to force negotiations or force legal claims holding up the sale of the property. So a plan/partnership was devised in which the band would indeed be giving a portion of the property. though I have this suspicion that it was a 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" between the KIB and CITY OF KAMLOOPS because without the closing of the KXA grounds, there would be no mandate to build anything anywhere and the poor bureaucrats would have no feather in their hats to brag about.

Apathy as a natural mathematical equation: peoples vote + government betrayal = Apathy

Pirate Parking Rates Proves Punitive Persecution;

From a tax payers point of view, it seems we are being punitively punished for not blindly accepting CITY OF KAMLOOPS parkade-in-the-park propaganda. Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember the propaganda not long ago coming from this very same corporation, said that the parkade was going to pay for its self very quickly with an annual income of $328,236, which would keep up on the $8 million mortgage payments and then some. Indeed if it weren't for the painfully publicly spawned referendum the "person" know as the city of KAMLOOPS, would most likely be breaking ground this very day.

One year later KAMLOOPS has the gall to double parking rates, increase fines and borrow millions, not to build a parkade somewhere else more suitable, but to put in digital parking meters in a time when people can least afford it and business is all ready cringing! Lets not even consider the fact that the old meters have lasted decades with lil maintenance; while in contrast electronic crap is constantly breaking down, so double what is projected for costs. Instead, focus on the gay foolers who have the audacity to say its to "help attract new business, and fill the office space", which to a normal individual seems simply psychotic to charge more in hopes of attracting already cash strapped shoppers. Notice the common characteristics of their crimes; no shortage of corporate cronies backing the crime as a good idea no matter how insane as if to make it all legal and legitimate via perceived public tacit consent.

The city said its looking into private public partnerships for parkades, though in my mind they missed the boat with both the Landsdown shopping mall redesign/butchering, and the Hotel that removed 300 public parking stalls from the community; then was waved the law that obligated the hotel to provide enough parking even for their own customers, putting the onus on public parking to provide for a private hotel's profit. Its more evidence that back room deals are afoot when they assumed the "sure thing parkade in the park" was destined, and it legally was, if not for the passionate public. Its a shame there isn't likely any other major developments down town as the economy tanks yet again under stern-psychotic NWO governance.

All in all, Strange behaviors from a "person" who was so gung ho not long ago to build a parkade "my way". Perhaps they need a psych evaluation, no?

new meters continue to have problems and are disliked for their difficulty and confusing bs. The lack of paying stations also is bs, one a block is not enough. they have also have been having problems, even going down because their server is in some foreign country. I still claim that its fraud to charge for public parking...its public land not CITY OF KAMLOOPS land..of course if THE CITY OF KAMLOOPS has a deed signed by God proving THE CITY OF KAMLOOPS owns the land and has the right and authority to threaten people and make their lives miserable. It also may be unconstitutional as it prejudices both the members of the public and forces them to pay an extra tax for visiting down town as well it prejudices business's downtown....but hey, try to find a BAR accredited lawyer to make that argument in Her Majesty's Court.

SUSTAINABLE: "the capacity to endure

A word we hear almost every day now, a favorite of government agencies, and until a friend pointed it out to me, a word seemingly innocent....that is until one realizes the significance of the word sustainable  and how its being used in today's political environment. Sustainable has been adopted as the poster child of politicians and bureaucrats as an excuse to force their policies and regulations in Canada and most of the world thanks to the United Nations, who spawned Agenda 21, Kamloops being no exception, indeed the word "sustainable" is used as the leading force of local authority. When I hear that word used by politicians and bureaucrats it sends as shiver down my back because I recognize its as part of the deception.

Every time we hear government use the word "sustainable"  try to ask them these questions?

Is the growing demands on the foodbanks sustainable?

Is the  growing costs of housing(rent/mortgage, taxes, insurance, heat electricity, up keep) sustainable?

Are the new drinking/driving, cell phone, over 40K laws along with the growing tyranny sustainable in society?

Is the manifestation of criminal activity into US/Mexico style of gangs and guns sustainable for a safe community?

Is the growing costs of food sustainable for average families?

Is the deforestation, dyeing oceans and pollution spewed into the environment sustainable  and healthy for future generations?

Is the current political mayhem and unaccountability sustainable even for our generation???

These are the questions we need to ask ourselves, ask of our politicians and bureaucrats to determine what action needs to be taken; obviously the actions they have been taking in the last 100 years are not the right ones.

A few good quotes :) “Bureaucracy is the death of all sound work”  Albert Einstein

“In any bureaucracy, paper work increases as you spend more and more time reporting on the less and less you are doing" unknown

"Join in the new game that's sweeping the country. It's called "Bureaucracy" Everybody stands in a circle. The first person to do anything loses.” unknown but my fav

"You will never understand bureaucracies until you understand that for bureaucrats procedure is everything and outcomes are nothing.” Thomas Sowell This quote defines what RCMP have become; bureaucrats

Recently in Kamloops this holiday season a young driver with a N was the only attendant of a Christmas party who did not have a single sip of alcohol, many attendees had one or two drinks over the evening at the party, (most likely fine to drive but knew road checks were out and a zero tolerance to drinking was being enforced.) Thus this individual proceeded to make trips with four others, then returning to the party to give rides to the others who feared driving. Upon leaving the area they quickly ran into a RCMP roadcheck, having a N on the graduating licensing the individual is only by "law" allowed to have one other passenger. Explaining to the officer that she was the only one who did not have even one sip of alcohol, the taxis were over run because of new strict laws scaring people not to risk losing the right to drive, and as a result  was the only means for anyone to get home, so as such was driving the entire party home, even though she was by "law" not suppose to have anymore than one passenger. The officer at the time understood the significance and waved them through. Upon returning to get more party goers home, once again having to go through the RCMP road check, this time two different officers were attending, not knowing the circumstances, took one look at the N on the back of the car, and counting the heads in the car, stopped the car and without consideration at all for the circumstances gave a smart remark of "your record is screwed now" knowing that the slightest infraction under the code requires suspension of new drivers license who are under strict probation to follow the "law". The insensitivity of the officers was defended by the supervisors who stated "insurance requires, if they had gotten into an accident we're liable" ...you see no commonsense, no honor, two people had to get out and walk home in the middle of winter, maybe even drunk, who would be liable if a drunk fell in a ditch and froze to death after being  forced to walk home?

We all want a safe community, but todays society has manifested its self into a Frankenstein monster that I want everything to do with because it is my community, and I resent what these corporate persons have done to my community so I run for political office to try to take back what has been stolen and be a voice of the people; I want to serve my community and I have a right to do so, we all do; we all want a happy safe affordable social life and to live in a great community; why should bureaucracies and highsociety businessmen be the ones who direct our communities future? So at the same time I want nothing to do with their society...if this is a society run by these bureaucrats and businessmen who hold themselves immune from being held accountable and who insist in defacto control and dictation to me, making what ever they feel "legal" like all wars made "legal" while not giving consideration or listening to me or the people, and instead of serving the people quash the people...then if this is indeed a free society, I have the right to leave their society and live as a free man...but that does not include my physically leaving, for I have a birth right to this land and I, like any native born Canadian, has a right to live and prosper on this land in my private sovereign capacity under common law. [not above the law as they would have you believe] My forefathers fought and died to preserve all Canadians rights and liberties for all, and By God's Will and Grace I will stand up and fight for those rights and liberties with my every breath so that others may not suffer lose of liberty and destruction of our communities and environments. Each of us has a duty to stand up against what is wrong and harmful and derogating but so often they keep most people preoccupied with stuggling to survive and dealing with personal problems.

Forty years ago we lived on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in school lunches; today they are illegal to bring to school because to many children's immune systems have been destroyed from corporate industrial diseases that makes a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich deadly...ask yourself how much worse are we willing to let our health, society, environment and well being derogated before we change the system of government?

Communities in bloom is simple bullshit; spend a million or so pasting flowers, but only in key area's, like the drive from the airport, n up main street, the rest of the city gets ignored and neglected, like just about every boulevard in out lying areas is over grown, Valleyview Dallas and Westsyde are left to the weeds...but hey! these guys are professional bullshitters, they have university certificates and CIB trophies to prove it.
